It is with profound sorrow that the Schoharie Valley Singers and the greater community are mourning the tragic passing of Benjamin Frisch, a beloved choir member and gifted musician, who died on January 11, 2026, as the result of a skiing accident. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the choir and among all who knew and loved him.
Benjamin, known to many as Ben, was a remarkably talented young man with a deep and genuine love for music. Singing was his passion, and he was also a self-taught organist whose dedication and skill earned him the admiration of congregations throughout the region. Many first came to know Ben through his faithful seasonal service at Beards Hollow Church, where each August he took his place at the historic pump organ, filling the sanctuary with music that reflected both reverence and joy.
From there, Ben went on to serve several local churches as an organist and pianist, offering his musical gifts with humility and devotion. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and quiet professionalism made him a treasured presence within the Schoharie Valley Singers and in every congregation he served. Those who sang alongside him remember not only his musical excellence, but also his kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to the community.
Beyond his musical contributions, Ben was on a deeply meaningful spiritual journey. Shortly before his passing, he was officially certified by his church as a Lay Minister, affirming his calling to proclaim the Word of God and serve others in faith. Friends and fellow congregants admired the depth of his spirituality, his humility, and his sincere desire to live out his faith through service.
As the community grieves this heartbreaking loss, heartfelt condolences are being extended to Ben’s family, friends, fellow choir members, and all whose lives were touched by his music and faith.
Funeral arrangements are being coordinated through Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley, with additional details to be shared as they become available.
Benjamin Frisch will be remembered for his extraordinary musical gifts, his steadfast faith, and the kindness he brought into every space he entered. His absence will be deeply felt, but his legacy will continue to resonate through the music he shared and the lives he inspired.
